    * Things are shaping up now.  The snap to other widgets (OmniGraffle style)
    is coming along, although it still needs to show the guide lines.
    
    * selection handling is much better now that I've figured out how to use
    the mouse blocking mechanism of scenegraph.
    
    * widgets now get assigned a default name, and the eventing works
    to show the currently selected widget
    
    * need to clean up info bar, put it on the bottom of the window,
    allow for renaming, and I think it's ready to start using.

    Figured out that I can attach handlers to groups also, which both cleans up the
    code and makes the widgets a bit more user friendly.  Also discovered that
    registering multiple mouse handlers (e.g. pressed and dragged) would mess with
    each other using a different listener proxy per handler.  Now with the on-mouse
    function we have clear syntax and it works.

    * started making color a modifiable property of widgets
    * now we can add and remove widgets from a surface, which will become the
    managing unit for a group of widgets.  (Eventually will allow for saving
    layouts, settings, etc...)
    * setting up default sizes so the basic ratios seem right... probably still
    needs work.
    * moving to watch functions for updating GUI based on current state
    * surface supports browser style zoom in and out with ctl-minus and ctl-plus,
    but still need to resize background and adjust center point.

    * Added anti-aliasing to edge components so everything looks smooth.

    I implemented a simple patch viewer using the Vijual layout algorithms and
    displaying with scenegraph.  Seems like it could be a good strategy for doing
    automated layout of nodes, although we need to handle connections ourselves.
    
    Got the curve editor up and running in a standalone panel and frame.
    
    Also pulled Vijual supported text output (the (node-tree) function) back into
    mainline overtone.
