The problem is that the users selected language is always added to the user preference array even when no language is selected (such as on the first visit to the login screen). This can cause an empty value in the array for that key, which overwrites the global value and a language selection of null activates the auto detection. Attached patch adds a check the rcube_user->get_prefs() to only add language to the array when it is set.
