Reported by rosali on 22 Dec 2009 15:35 UTC as Trac ticket #1486386

IMO, the following hint from devs list should be taken into consideration:

Hello all of you

If you login to RC with the same email adress, but with an other
Servername, RC creates a new user. That means, you'll lose your settings
and your contact information and the other informations, that are
related to a user (cache, pluginsettings). The database also stores some
redundant datas. I'm wondering if there a reason, why the it makes sense
to create multiple account for the same emailadresse. I don't see the
advantage.
If the name of the email server changes, your account settings are gone.
At the moment there is no way to map this accounts. And the user don't
understand the diffence if the entered mail.mydomain.com or mydomain.com
and afterwards his contact are gone.

Thanks
D. L.

Thanks for your hard work in the passing Year 2009! See you again in 2010!

Well, these are disjont IMAP accounts and therefore need separated stuff like caching. Not an easy task to combine certain user-related data.

We should store username in form of login@host and remove mail_host column.

Can anyone tell me whether a lot of code needs to be changed to achieve this functionality? I'm willing to work on this if it isn't too complex.

BTW, we need a unique index on this new column.

After more thinking I see that joining the columns is not a solution at all. It looks like a wontfix. All we can do is to add a warning in config file.

Can you do it with the next release, please? I've just wasted sometime with "guessing" why after changing my IMAP hostname all the contacts and identifies were gone, while still being in the MySQL...
