Reported by lacri on 11 Mar 2009 10:06 UTC as Trac ticket #1485774

A beautiful feature for Roundcube would be possible that it is for messages to be redirect/rerouted/bounce.

As a message forward only that the receiver does not see that the message one forwarded.

The feature gives it for example also with Squirrelmail and in the The Bat! Just see it as a interactive BCC. The message is send as is to another mail address. This option is often called bounce.

Keywords: redirect reroute bounce

What exactly this feature should do? The same as "Edit as new" action but with emptied/reset From/To/Cc headers?

Bouncing a message should:

  • Keep the message and all its attachments as well as all the headers verbatim
  • Add the headers Resent-From, Resent-To, Resent-Date and Resent-Message-ID

The plugin above appears to add Resent-User-Agent as well, but I have not see other programs do that (mutt at least won't iirc).

Apparently I can't add a CC without a comment

We recently switched from horde to Roundcube and this is such a basic feature that is missing and unfortunately only the admin can install plugins.

Any indication of when this 4 year old request will be part of Roundcube?

Some more implementation details can be found in mozilla's bugtracker for same feature at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12916

Hello,
I tried bot plugins, none of them are sending a correct bounced mail with RC 0.9.4. I tried to look into it, but I have not much clue...

Brute messages appear like:

(correct headers)
In-Reply-To: 20130627141140.GA6158@XXXXX.com
X-Organisation: Land of Sunshine Inc.
User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.21 (2010-09-15)
X-Virus-Scanned: Maia Mailguard 1.0.2c

Received: from smtp2.XXXXX.com (socket)

by pop.XXXX.net (Cyrus v2.4.17) with LMTPA;

Fri, 28 Jun 2013 00:31:30 +0200

Two \n\n are put after the headers, and then bounced headers appear, but as it's after two CR, any MUA think it's in the body of mail, thus not working.

After upgrading to 1.0.2, the bounce plugin authored by umount above no longer works.

So, on the UI level user should not have the possibility to modify message body/attachments. Am I correct? In such case I wouldn't even display the compose page, we could display a dialog window where the user could pick his identity and enter recipients.

ps. Resent-* headers are defined at https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822#section-3.6.6.

That is exactly correct, we just need the UI to select the identity to be in the Resent headers, and the destination/contact; the body itself should not be touched, neither the other headers.

Many mail clients allow for the subject and message body to be edited when redirecting/bouncing a message. This is especially helpful if I want to redirect a message in to a ticketing system, as I can append a ticket number to the subject line so the system adds the message as correspondence to an open issue instead of creating a new ticket.

That's not a bounce. With a bounce, neither the subject nor body of a message is ever touched. All you're doing is changing the recipient - as if it was sent to them directly.

This request has been put on the "later" milestone and is now closed, but I didn't find a comment saying "we are not going to do it" or "we did it as part of xyz" or any commit referring to this feature request.
Has it been silently abandoned?
The feature seems relatively easy to implement (but I have no familiarity with PHP or the roundcube codebase to do it myself) and is rather useful for several people. Any chance it can be added to roundcube itself?

Sorry, I was confused by the last "What is 'Bounce the message'" reference (which is closed). This request still is open TTBOMK.
However, my other question still stands: Any chance this could be implemented soon?

Move common mail composing/sending code to new rcmail_sendmail class
This is needed to make simpler an implementation of e.g.
- Mail Bounce feature (#4985),
- Direct Draft sending (#4998),
- Fast reply from mail preview (#5129).

This has broken sending of mail.

When composing a message, pressing the send button causes a javascript error stating "Please enter at least one recipient.".

Looking at the svn log, this appears to occur with any commit at or beyond the following:

r11654 | aleksander.machniak | 2017-07-12 19:56:41 +1000 (Wed, 12 Jul 2017) | 2 lines

Email Resent (Bounce) feature (#4985)

The previous commit (r11649) works fine.
