A Recipe for a Redis RPM on CentOS

Perform the following on a build box as root.

Enable the EPEL repositories

yum install yum-priorities
rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/x86_64/epel-release-5-3.noarch.rpm

Follow the guide at http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities
to set the standard CentOS repositories at a higher priority than the EPEL
ones to avoid conflicts.

Create an RPM Build Environment

yum install rpmdevtools

Install Prerequisites for RPM Creation

yum groupinstall 'Development Tools'

Download Redis

cd /tmp
wget http://github.com/antirez/redis/tarball/v2.0.0-rc1
tar xzf antirez-redis-v2.0.0-rc1-0-g329cdba.tar.gz
mv antirez-redis-g329cdba redis-2.0.0-rc1
tar czf redis-2.0.0-rc1.tar.gz redis-2.0.0-rc1
cp redis-2.0.0-rc1.tar.gz ~/rpmbuild/SOURCES/

Get Necessary System-specific Configs

git clone git://github.com/causes/redis-centos.git
cp redis-centos/conf/redis.conf ~/rpmbuild/SOURCES/
cp redis-centos/spec/redis.spec ~/rpmbuild/SPECS/

Build the RPM

cd ~/rpmbuild/
rpmbuild -ba SPECS/redis.spec

The resulting RPM will be:

Based on the redis.spec file from Jason Priebe, found on Google Code.
