Hi. Do you have an specific improvements you would like to make?

Here are my current thoughts:

  • Improve general web design. This should start with the project home page http://ruboto.org/ and be copied to the benchmarking server.
  • Add selecting and grouping by the available test parameters (ruboto version, jruby version, android version, etc.
  • Charts for the results (maybe Gruff).

Any help is appreciated on this, and commit rights will be given after the first accepted pull request.

I've started working on my fork of the startup server (just backfilling a few acceptance tests etc before I start trying add any features). My buddy at work @catalystmediastudios mocked up a new homepage for ruboto.org.

Is this the direction you were thinking as far as the look-and-feel goes?

YES! This is REALLY pretty! I like it! I want it!

As with every design, everyone has an opinion. My only wish (demand), is that you (discretely) insert the Ruboto logo somewhere. We need to promote a recognisable logo to improve awareness of Ruboto.

I'm glad you like it! Adding in the logo would be fairly easy so that's no problem at all.

What would be the best way to go about getting this into your hands? I'm assuming I just clone https://github.com/ruboto/ruboto.github.com and make the changes and submit a pull request. Is that how you'd like us to go about making the changes to the home page?

Yes, please.

Hi @hqmq @paulcsmith !

Did you get anywhere with this? We still need the improvements both in the benchmarking app and on the home pages.

mmmries commented Dec 28, 2013

@donv Sorry for the long silence. @paulcsmith and I have both taken new jobs since we last worked on this. I was actually catching up on ruboto the other night. Your recent releases have been really good. I'll see if I can get some time to work on this again before I go back to work on Jan 2nd.

mmmries commented Dec 28, 2013

Also I noticed that the ruboto.org page has gotten a facelift. Do you want me to take that theme into the startup server or do you still want to move forward with the design work that @paulcsmith had mocked up?

Thanks for the kind comment on our latest releases, and gratz on your new jobs! Any work you can do is appreciated.

The previous (well done!) facelift of the home page was done by @kennym. Thank you Kenny!

If you can improve the current home page design, that would be OK, but whatever design you use on the benchmark app, it does not have to be the same as the home page. Any way you go, we will be happy. If you go with a different design from the home page, we may treat it as a competing design, and possibly use it on the home page in the future.

The benchmark app needs functional changes as well.

We have several issues registered to change design and content on the home page if you are interested.

Hi @hqmq @paulcsmith @kennym !

The presentation of the RubotoBenchmark results dearly needs work. The project is here: https://github.com/ruboto/ruboto_startup_server

Do any of you have the time to freshen it up?

Sorry to disappoint, but I've been spending all my open-source time
recently on Maglev and preparing presentations. I won't have any time in
the near future for this.

Hey @donv, I am taking a look at this right now, and maybe push something soon today.

I cannot temporarily contribute as much time as before to Ruboto, because I don't use it currently. Most times I actually write an Android app, I go the Java way, because it seems to be more convenient for now. Maybe some Java to Ruby transition video presentation/document would be appropriate here. :-)
