This is the first custom shell script I've "installed" and I wanted to make sure I'm doing it right.

Location:
~/shell_stuff/z.sh

In ~/.bashrc
. ~/shell_stuff/z.sh

I start a new terminal window and cd around, but when I try to use z: z autocom it tells me the z command is not found.
I'm sure I'm leaving something out, but what am I missing? Do I also need the z.1 file?

Looks right, so your .bashrc probably isn't getting sourced for some reason. You might need to put a line in ~/.profile that sources ~/.bashrc or something. z.1 is a man page.

Yep. That's what I ended up doing. Had to put this line:
. ~/shell_stuff/z.sh

into ~/.bash_profile

Now it works like a champ. Thanks a lot for this. Minor productivity boosts for the win.
