I forgot to mention it in the previous newletter but the help wanted section should include the help wanted issues planned for the edition release. See https://github.com/search?q=org%3Arust-embedded+is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+milestone%3Arc1+label%3A%22help+wanted%22&type=Issues

With rust-lang/rust@898950c, aarch64-unknown-none has landed upstream.

It's a generic target for writing bare-metal code for 64-bit ARM architectures.

Do we want to mention create releases? cortex-m got 0.5.4, cortex-m-rt 0.5.2, and cortex-m-quickstart 0.3.3.

@adamgreig I agree with @japaric, probably not for every minor crate out there but certainly for the crates most of the other crates are based on.

I think we can mention major releases of minor crates, but probably not minor releases of minor crates. Mentioning minor releases of the important crates (like those three @adamgreig mentions) makes sense, I think.

  • The default linker for the Cortex-M targets changed. Point to the other blog post.

  • Latest releases of cortex-m, cortex-m-rt, cortex-m-semihosting and cortex-m-quickstart don't require arm-none-eabi-gcc to build.

  • Combined these two mean that you won't need GCC to build Cortex-M programs on stable.

Meta comment: Perhaps we should change how we write these newsletters. IIRC, this week in rust commits a template after the last edition was published and then people send PRs adding stuff to it throughout the week. That way a single person doesn't have to write the whole thing. cc @rust-embedded/resources

Very big 👍 from me. I was traveling Sunday/Monday (and catching up on work today), which is why this newsletter isn't out. I plan to work on it during the wg meeting.
