The Command Line Interface Working Group (CLI-WG) is announcing an open call for CLI and related library maintainers to provide some good first issues for all levels of contributors, and to participate in the CLI working group for 2019. (In a way this is our good first issue). None of the points below are required for a issue to be a “good first issue”, rather they provide a set of recommendations that we believe make issues more approachable to more people.

What makes a good first issue?

  • A good first issue should require no previous experience with your library. (Independent of a contibutor’s Rust knowledge).
  • It should provide a clear start and end point.
  • You should provide clear steps for how the contributor should implement and test your library. If you have some of this information in a CONTRIBUTING.md please link to it.
  • Provide a clear expectation of the level of work and time required to implement it.
  • Explain what previous experience a contributor might need to have to be able to make the contribution.
  • Issues that require specific experience or knowledge should if possible link to resources, or offer to provide mentoring for the issue.
