  1. Don't do RFC-compliance testing on existing data

    authored
    I figure I shouldn't be doing validation *at all* client-side, but I'm
sure there was a reason I started doing it in the first place... Now if
    only I could recall why...

  3. That restriction should be safe to remove

    authored
In fact, this restriction must be removed for server-side changes, like
SOA serial bumps, to propagate back to us.

  2. datetime.strptime was introduced in Python 2.5

    authored
    I want to support 2.4.
  3. Do not import version

    authored
While this practice is convenient and all, importing the module this way
means that my packaging environment needs to have more dependencies
installed on it than should be necessary. To import __version__ from
__init__.py, Python tries to parse and compile my modules, which in turn
pulls in lxml and friends. I am not specifying lxml as a build
dependency just so I can avoid having to specify a version in two
    places.

There is probably a nicer way of going about all this.
