Snakeberry is a RESTful webservice to use your RaspberryPi as a webradio. Do you know Sonos? The Sonos Wireless HiFi System allows for streaming of music from internet sources, in multiple rooms within range, via wi-fi (802.11). Which is great, but expensive. Sonos components cost between 300$ and 700$ each! With Snakeberry you can have similar functionalities for 70$ per room. If you want better speakers the price will of course be higher, but maybe you already have good speakers in some rooms and if they have a 3.5mm audio connector or HDMI you could use them.
It is also planned to make it possible to play music from other resources (SMB share, DLNA, and so on…) on it, but this is not yet implemented. In fact any audio player feature you know from a PC could be added. Feel free to send feature request or fork the project and implement your wishes yourself.
So what can you do with this?
In fact it is a cheap and easy way to build a web radio and soon it will also be a media player for audio files from various resources. You can place a raspberry in ever room you want to listen to music and than control it via a remote (see remote control for more info).
