Wincompose works well in my windows 10 except Libre Office.

It seems that Libre Office catches many keystrokes. I've tried to uncheck options but it doesn't work.

What are recommendations for use wincompose with Libre Office ?

I'm using WinCompose with LibreOffice and Scribus and it always worked :) I'm using Right Ctrl key as Compose key, perhaps it's related to the compose key :)

I use Alt Gr. On my laptop there is not Right Ctrl Key, only left.

My keyboard is an Azerty.

I'm also on an Azerty keyboard, could you change the Compose key to something else ?

I think this is not the problem. I didn't say wincompose doesn't work, but I said that it works badly into Libre Office. :)

It works for some letters, but it doesn't work for others like quote even if we uncheck option about that.

It’s a bit hard for me to investigate with that much information. Can you please be more precise? I’d like to know:

  • your version of LibreOffice
  • the exact sequence of keys you press
  • what you see
  • what you expected to see

Thanks!

On my PC, I tested :

  • compose + ' + ' = ”
  • compose + > + > = »
  • compose + < + < = «

Both are working in my version of LibreOffice (5.2.7.2).

  • my version of LibreOffice : 5.2.5.1
  • the exact sequence of keys I press:
    • Alt Gr + < + <
  • I see:
    • « in notepad, firefox, and so on
    • nothing in Libre Office
  • I expect to see:
    • « in notepad, firefox, and so on
    • « in Libre Office

Thank you :)

I cannot reproduce your exact problem but I can see there are weird things happening in LibreOffice. I will investigate.

@mdes : I haven't notice this green light before your remark. The green light in Libre Office operates in same manner than in others editors : green during and not green after the last 2nd quote typed (but not displayed in Libre Office)

@samhocevar : thanks :)

I understand the problem (with the message of @mdes about the green light)

  • In Notepad, and so on:
    • I do in the same time Alt Gr + < + < and it works
  • In Libre Office:
    • I do in same time Alt Gr + < + < and it doesn't work
    • I do not in same time Alt Gr and after < + < and it does work

I use the compose key like shift key, ie in the same time. But in some applications, like Libre Office, we have to use the compose key, the green light stays green, and after the finger took off the compose key, then I push the next keys.

This is much more slowly but it works. By the way it could help to obtain complex characters not only in Libre Office.

I always release the compose key after pushing it.

In libre office Alt Gr + < + < = « work but Alt Gr + [ + x + ] = ☒ doesn't work (and the icon stay green after I push Alt Gr and stop being green after pushing ] ). I don't have this issue with other applications.

Most of these issues are fixed in a new pre-release, except the one with ☒ not working properly. This is because LibreOffice does not support the kind of Unicode input that WinCompose uses. However, there is a workaround in Git that will be in the next release.

Work around a Unicode input issue in LibreOffice.
LibreOffice has the same issue as Notepad++ (#177), so we rely on copy-paste
instead of keyboard input to paste our characters.
