With some consternation, I've overhauled my website. Much is due to the fine work of [Steve Losh](stevelosh.com), whose work I've assiduously cribbed, both in web design, .vim configs, and much else--as well as the programmatic stylings of the [Hyde](http://hyde.github.com/) Project, whose framework is a breeze. The [Golden Grid System](godengridsystem.com) gave me all of the nifty "Responsive Web" tricks for free.
The code for this website is hosted on GitHub: https://github.com/samjacoby/samjacoby.com. Not much to see, but knock yourself out if you're so inclined.

This site is powered by [Hyde](http://hyde.github.com/), which is complex enough to make me feel smart--and simple enough to be actually useful. The [Golden Grid System](http://goldengridsystem.com) gave me all of the nifty "Responsive Web" tricks for free.

####UPDATE

I decided to scrap all that, and make a version that uses an Atmega 168--like an Arduino--as that's the version that I'm most familiar with. Here's the board layout I scrapped together. Works ok, though I ultimately ended up milling one with a resonator.

Every time I send off Gerbers for production, I am baffled by the array of files that the CAM job in Eagle generates. I'm happy to be ignorant. That's fine. The issue is, when you upload your files to most board fabs, they cheerily list the half-dozen off things you've sent them--and ask you what they are? Top solder mask? NC drill file? I know nothing of this. So--some research later, and this is what we've got.

To the best of my knowledge--using [Advanced Circuits](http://www.4mypcb.com), these are the file extension mappings using the Eagle Gerber RS274X cam file. I may have once changed the default extensions randomly a few months ago--so handle with care. There are some inconsistencies as detailed [here](http://www.protoexpress.com/content/gerber_extensions.jsp). A nice summary [here](http://www.cs.uml.edu/~fredm/courses/91.548-spr03/eagle-gerber-output.shtml) as well. Thanks, Fred.

Learning German is hard. Twain got that like no other. This essay, originally an appendix in _The Tramps Abroad_, details his trials and trevails of trying to master _deutsch_, and was a great solace to me while attempting to do the same.

Two Chekhov stories--"The Student," and "On Easter Eve"--in new translation--courtesty of [Michael Henry Heim](http://www.humnet.ucla.edu/humnet/slavic/faculty/heim_m.html). These stories are two favorites of mine--and I even read [somewhere][1] that "The Student" was Chekhov's own favorite. It's a spectacular update on the standard [Constance Garnett](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constance_Garnett) translations. Handprinted on a Vandercook Universal I from mint Dante types. The paper was smuggled in from Germany.
