Something like this is missing at the moment, so every tool has to reinvent the wheel for themselves. Given issues like #1472, the cost of reinventing the wheel is quite high. Let's bake this functionality into Scalameta.

This ticket is closed, because we have introduced the requested functionality in the commit mentioned above. However, the whole story isn't over - the introduced functionality is in an internal package, so it can't be considered a public API. We are planning to improve the situation in the future.
