We have been drafting towards a new release in Github. This issue tracks final steps towards a release proposal, including the updates to docs/releases.html summarizing the changes (primarily into Pending area).

Specifics:

  • Update README.md adding Proposing schemas section
  • Scan commits to master and summarize into release notes
  • Clean up dangling confusion around Series, EventSeries, CreativeWorkSeries
  • Roughly, we renamed CreativeWorkSeries from Series, capturing its intent (it was added initially in the TV/Radio fixes led by BBC/EBU). However at the time we didn't have the technical machinery to say that a type was supersedBy another, so it survived long enough for EventSeries to be proposed, at which point we were left asking ourselves whether to keep it as a common parent type or not. See #447 and #1090
  • fix encodingFormat vs fileFormat, #1155
  • fixed duplicate example ID bug #1858
  • Merged Dan Scott's basic fixes towards a more responsive / mobile friendly UI, #490
  • Fix typo 1525c in release notes from 3.3.
  • add automotive docs, to accompany auto.schema.org, #1569
  • Merged Trip and basic Tourism vocab, #1815
  • Fix to CSV output (missing & repeated properties in output for types and enums) #1879 #1882. Contents of download files for *-types.csv & *-enumvalues.csv merged into single *-types.csv. Option to download *-enumvalues.csv removed from Developers/html.

To consider squeezing in:
#383 - funding/grants

Final sanity check needed:
#1884

Would be good to understand if the example is ok for #1897

Ok, I think we're pretty much ready to go. We are missing release notes (and at some point clobbered some of the draft release note text that was in docs/releases.html - update, @RichardWallis found it). I've extracted a list of all commits since 3.3 was released here, and will rework them into the right shape. The necessary structure is in this template.

Changes since 3.3 release, from Git history

Additionally, in a paragraph associated with the same example, two
sentences has no space after a period. Space was added in each instance

commit f546ddb
Author: Dan Brickley danbri@danbri.org
Date: Wed Apr 25 19:32:48 2018 -0700

Series type is now intangible, rather than the mistaken CreativeWork supertype.
We have two subtypes of it, CreativeWorkSeries (successor to the original
definition of Series, which was too generally named), plus the proposed
EventSeries type (currently in the Pending area).

These domain-specific series types also have corresponding supertypes in
CreativeWork and Event.

Author: Dan Brickley danbri@danbri.org
Date: Wed Apr 25 18:43:44 2018 -0700

with continuing to use fileFormat, but there is a gentle nudge towards
encodingFormat as the preferred term.

commit 04ef819
Author: Dan Scott dan@coffeecode.net
Date: Wed Apr 11 16:54:12 2018 -0400

Responsive design commit series (#1878)

* Responsiveness: remove global font-size: 75%

Use the default font size and allow users to adjust up or down if necessary.
75% can be quite hard to see on modern high-resolution screens, for example.

Signed-off-by: Dan Scott <dan@coffeecode.net>

* Responsiveness: set min-width and max-width only for large media

If the width of the display media is greater than 960px, then we can set the
min-width and max-width accordingly. Otherwise, let's leave that unspecified
and let the content respond to the the device.

Signed-off-by: Dan Scott <dan@coffeecode.net>

* Responsiveness: specify padding in ems not px

If we work with a relative unit like ems then the design can be more
responsive. In this case, 40px was a huge amount of padding on smaller
screens; use 0.5em padding and increase that on larger displays.

Also, remove the CSS declarations that were made redundant by subsequent
declarations.

Signed-off-by: Dan Scott <dan@coffeecode.net>

* Responsiveness: property table display

Allow table elements to display as inline-block elements on smaller screens.

Definitely not perfect, but allows the content to be viewed without pinching
and zooming or scrolling back and forth.

Signed-off-by: Dan Scott <dan@coffeecode.net>

* Responsiveness: less whitespace at page start

2em in an h1 is a lot of white space; cut that in half and it works reasonably
well on small and big screens alike.

Signed-off-by: Dan Scott <dan@coffeecode.net>

* Responsiveness: add a meta viewport

Also use generally accepted HTML5 html and meta elements, instead of XHTML, to
simplify and avoid potential quirks.

Signed-off-by: Dan Scott <dan@coffeecode.net>

Fixes bug for "too many redirects" when accessing www.schema.org.
Fixes bur where link to extention home page (at top of term page) wrongly inludes full path to term.

* Introduced retry loop around rdflib graph queries. Hot-fix to overcome exceptions being thrown under very heavy lods.

* Typo fix
