Covid has largely transitioned from pandemic to endemic, and many cases now go unreported, which reduces the accuracy and usefulness of the underlying data.

Traffic to this tracker has also decreased significantly. It dutifully served it's purpose during the pandemic, but now people have moved on with their lives – which is great!

Additionally, NYT has continued to change the format of their data files, requiring extra maintenance to prevent the tracker from breaking. It was actually showing inaccurate county-level data for many months because of this.

With these things in mind, I'm choosing to stop maintaining the tracker and freeze it in time on the last accurate data pull. If anyone wishes to take over maintenance of the project and keep it going, please feel free to start a discussion in this issue!

It was great while it lasted (the service, not covid). Thanks David.
