In order to collaborate on this project, we need to decide how we want to move forward. Github is not the perfect collaboration tool, but I figure it's a good enough place to start.

As a first step, I suggest we all:

  1. Make sure you have a github account
  2. Post a message here with a short description about yourself, your skills, and what you'd like to get out of the project.
  3. Have a look at the Product Intro message here and give me your reactions.

In order to actually get started, I would suggest one of these:

  1. Download and run the code I have here.
  2. Try creating your own story by creating a new YAML file.
  3. Expand the capabilities of the player for more media types (like youtube videos)

Hey there Scott, interesting meeting you. Really cool project and glad to be a part of it. I'm more of a frontend guy.

I'll be able to handle the UI Design of general interactions, Story/Page layouts, as well as assist with the overall information architecture and navigation. Design, HTML, CSS and a bit of JS. If needed I can work up some branding for the project also.

Not gonna touch RoR! Don't think you'd want me to ; )

Out of this I'm looking to push the browser/mobile web to whatever limits the project allows. Will be a great sandbox to try out experimental technologies and fusions of existing ones to create something different... creative. I see this as a great creative outlet in a direction of things I have great interest in.

One question I've struggled with a bit is how to do the "design" for the stories. My thought was to use a basic "template" system. So your story would include a CSS file that defined the overall look and feel of your story. This would be things like default page background, fonts, text appearance for titles and annotations, image decorations (like a "Poloarid" treatment). Basically think like how a Powerpoint design template works.

So it would be great if you could create out first design template. It could include:

  • Title page (story title and author)
  • A second page, say with 2 images, image annotations, and a text block
  • A third page with a video and another text block

In the meantime, I will start working on a way for you to run the player against your own story.

Hmm ye would be great to give each story a unique look and feel. once I get it up and running I'll try entering my own story. Build up some "pages" with sample information. And then we can have a chat about different layouts and navigations.

We can build this out as a hybrid as we spoke (desktop, tablet) about, I think the main goal here is using HTML to the fullest so we have a lot to play with. I have a custom responsive CSS framework I use that'd help with this.

Gotta try not to make the browser cry too much though lol. Also if we do have the ability to customize using a CSS file for each story then it means we could have some kind of art directed approach to the story layouts.
