This changes the desktop file for linux in particular for flathub.

While I understand, that this is not an emulator, I think it makes sense to show it next to/with other emulators.

Thank you
However, we specifically mention that ScummVM is not an emulator. Check our website:

ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical adventure and role-playing games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed! ScummVM is a complete rewrite of these games' executables and is not an emulator.

So, there is no reason to add ScummVM to a category where we specifically mention that it doesn't belong to.

For the reasons above, I'm closing this

Sure, that's why I referred to that from the get go.

But is it "just" a game? As far as I know, it's not a game at all, it's more like an engine? As you need to find the assets/games to run?

FWIW, OpenRA, OpenTTD, OpenMW which also are Open Sources reimplementations of existing commercial games don't make use of the Emulators category.

That's fair, but if we can agree, that it's not a game (at least on it's own) what would the correct term be?

Additonal points if you can find it in https://specifications.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/additional-category-registry.html

We already make use of the AdventureGame category which fits the majority of games covered by ScummVM.

In addition, please note the description of Emulator which states:

Emulator of another platform, such as a DOS emulator

As ScummVM doesn't emulate any platform, this category doesn't match what ScummVM is.
