You'll find that most of the pull requests against the original repo have been merged in here. So yes you should use this repo from now on.

This fork is well mantained and have new features.
Original project is abandoned and has broken MPEG DASH support (incompatible with open source players). So if you need MPD, you have no other choice ^^
