Lines 68 to 73 in 73d0ea6

env::var("PYTHON").ok().unwrap_or_else(|| {
let candidates = if cfg!(windows) {
["python2.7.exe", "python27.exe", "python.exe"]
} else {
["python2.7", "python2", "python"]
};
checks for python2 binaries. #26408 is an example of a failure that occurs when python3 is used instead. We should fix that.
