Fixed a number of bugs, including a critical error with the auto-updater. Also exposed more of the Java GUI backend to Ruby, which is important for GUI plugins.

If you are using Java 7, make sure to grab a file ending with _java17. If you're using Java 8, grab a file ending with _java18. Older versions of Java are not supported.
