Installation Instructions
First, sign up for a Developer's Edition free organization. It is recommended that you do not use an existing organization for this demo until you have gone through the demo and understand how things work.
To sign up for a developer organization, go to this URL: http://bit.ly/DE-Signup, and sign up. You must enter a valid email address that you can receive email on, as the signup process sends email to complete. Note: Please do not use a username that you already use with Salesforce, as it will simply tell you this user already exists. When you receive the email from Salesforce, follow the link and establish your password. Make it something simple, as you don't want to forget it
After you have created your DE organization, you need to then install the package containing the Streaming Demo. To do this, navigate to the installation link in your browser: http://bit.ly/TLQCyu. If you are not logged into your DE organization, you will be redirected to the Salesforce login page. Be sure to use the username/password used in the first step. Once you are logged in, or if you are already logged in, you will be directed to the Streaming Demo package installation page. Click the Continue button to install the package in your organization.
The package installation will ask you to allow access to third party web sites (na12.salesforce.com) and will indicate that this is SSL encrypted. Click on the box labeled "Yes, grant access to these third-party web sites" and then click the Continue button.
The package installation process will then ask you to complete 3 additional steps:
Simply click the Next button.
Select Grant access to all users and then click the Next button.
Click on the Install button. After a few seconds, you will see the notice "Your request is in progress. You will be notified by email when it completes." Wait for the email with the subject line "Package "DF-2012 Streaming Demo Package DF 2012 Fall" Install Successful" to arrive. When it does, the demo package is ready to be used in your DE organization.
To make things easier, you should customize your tabs to include the new pages from the demo package. To do so, click on the "+" that you see on the tab rows. Then click on the big orange button "Customize My Tabs", next to "Add Tabs to Your Default Display". From the list on the left side, select the available tabs:
- Events
- My Events
- EventLocations
- Leaders
- Leaders Streaming
- Location
- Location Streaming
Click on the Add button to add them to your default display and then click on the Save button.
