ShowCase is a free (as in beer), open source web app for displaying your projects effortlessly on the web.
Here's what you need to use ShowCase:
- Apache (web server)
For now, in order to use ShowCase, you must also self-host it. There may be a web based version that I set up in the future that will be available publicly.
Installation in theory should be quite simple (as usual), but in practice likely won't be (as usual).
I've tried to make it as easy as possible to set up ShowCase on your own server.
The following steps should do it:
- Download the latest version of ShowCase (GitHub)
inc/config.phpwith your MySQL connection details
- Now put all this stuff in a new folder e.g.
/showcase/on your server
- In your browser, simply navigate to that new folder
- Follow the steps on screen
Place your projects in the sc_projects folder and ShowCase will automatically pick them up. Don't worry - they won't automatically be displayed in your ShowCase until you manually add them in. See screenshot below for managing projects.
Additionally, you can maneuver your projects, and sections around ShowCase on the settings page - also pictured below.
Lastly, to add sections, just type the name of the section in the section box on the manage projects page when adding a project. These are automatically linked, so you just use the same section name on different projects to use the same section. Deleting sections via the settings page will not delete the projects, just the associate between the project and section.
Just do a
git pull origin master and push to your server - ya dingus.
Psst... Don't forget to ensure your
config.php is up to date after a pull!
