RETIRED

This solution is retired in favor of Google Chrome extension

join_calendar_events

Automatically open up links from event notifications in your browser.

Problem

When you having a lot of meetings in your calendar, it's pain everytime to open up calendar app and search for join link in the event description / location / title.

Solution

This elaborate scheme automagically opens up join link for you in default browser. I set it up so it opens up 2 minutes before meeting starts.

Idea is following:

  1. Setup email notification 2 minutes before event starts. Google Calendar Settings

  2. Mail.app sits in background and waits for invintation mail from calendar.

  3. Setup Mail.app rule to run AppleScript (from: calendar-notification@google.com) Mail.app Rule

  4. AppleScript detects links to join meeting and opens it up in browser window

  5. Message set as read and moved to "Calendar" lable/mailbox, so it will not pollute your inbox

  6. ?????????

  7. PROFIT!!!!!!

To setup Mail.app rule copy open_mail_calendar_event.appescript to ~/Library/Application\ Scripts/com.apple.mail

Todo:

  • Run Mail.app headless (without Dock icon and hidden from Alt+Tab menu)
