Use tray icon by default #1965
Comments
This is because it's still in testing. Thanks for your vote of confidence. I'm going to close this. |
Hi @scottnonnenberg, any new insights on this topic? Thank you. |
I am having the same experience as OP--I typically resort to I'm currently going through the changelogs to figure out what other features I may be missing out on. |
Is it time to turn this on yet? |
Also wondering if this can be turned on as it's been almost a year |
10th of march 2020, do we have an ETA? |
This issue is still tracked here: #2210 |
agreed. I thought there was a problem with my system tray |
Welcome to 2021. Still no default tray support. :( |
With the recent WhatsApp debacle and Signal's obscene increase in popularity it's time to make this the default. This is what's usually expected, and a lot of people trying out Signal vs Telegram are going to notice the lack of tray and of the configuration option and weigh it negatively, as I almost did! |
Any news on that topic? Could it be setup as a default or at least an option within the configuration panel? An option to make in black and white (for mac users, as most mac apps offer) would also be great. |
Welcome to 2022. Still no default tray support. :( |
@scottnonnenberg What exactly is the hold-up here? Why has it literally been more than 4 years since this issue was opened without (seemingly) any movement whatsoever (even though the feature works perfectly fine for those of us who discover it)? Is there room for someone to open a PR for this (if y'all are too busy with other things)? |
I would also welcome this. It does not have to be default but it would be lice if it were configurable from the GUI. Of course, one can always come with a workaround, edit the command manually (or start it from the CLI of course), but it is not ideal. Personally, I would also appreciate if the close button could be configured to work as the "hide" option of the tray icon. |
@chiraag-nataraj however, this issue seems to have been closed, so I am not sure if there is a lot of point in posting here :) |

Bug description
Right now, the tray icon is not default and one must start Signal with
--start-in-tray
or--use-tray-icon
. Instead, I would suggest having--use-tray-icon
be the default and--start-in-tray
be a configuration option.Steps to reproduce
--help
, and-h
don't do anything when it comes to Signal).Actual result:
No tray icon.
Expected result:
Tray icon appears.
