I'm just playing with GridFieldAddExistingAutocompleter for the first time and was confused by the searching. After adding some logging I have got to the bottom of what is going on.

My fields, for a Link object, are

Title: varchar
URL: varchar
Description: HTML

When I search for say 'BBC' a search is done for BBC% in each of Title, URL, or Description to find a match. However this does not work in 2 or the 3 cases above:

  1. URLs start with http
  2. Free text cannot be searched for in the description as the search term would have to start with a

    character.

Would it not be better to use free text searching here rather than poor SQL character start matching?
