Fixing a bunch of issues and typos and small things with 2025.1, which added David Udell and Polyphony Bruna as co-authors, added a new chapter on mechanistic interpretability, and made extensive revisions to the transformer chapter and linear algebra and word embedding chapters. Hundreds of smaller changes made across these two releases.

Adding David Udell and Polyphony Bruna as co-authors. A new chapter on mechanistic interpretability, and extensive revisions to the transformer chapter, including an expanded discussion of cognitive science and discussion of the residual stream. A new section on the geometry of word embeddings (e.g. the famous king-queen example). Folding in updates to the linear algebra chapter on vector comparison methods and matrix products. Another pass on most of this material should be coming later in the summer.

Adding Dave Noelle's contributions and corrections to the Neuroscience chapter and adding him as co-author. A new chapter on deep learning has been added, as has discussion of the transformer architecture and GPT (both of these discussions remain provisional however).

Initial public release of the book. Earlier non-public versions of the book existed for use in courses at UC Merced. The v2022.1 tag, and the zip files correspond to the first release of 2022.1.1, not to subsequent releases (2022.1.2, 2022.1.3., etc.) The PDF does however correspond to the latest version.
