On the precompiled windows binary on Win7 64b I'm unable to select "spiral vase" mode. This is reproducible on other computers also running Window 7.

Maybe you need to adjust other settings? For example, if you have 2 perimeters selected you can't enable Spiral vase. Check the tooltip for guidance.

iv seen the same, theres no tooltip on checkbox options.

I have played with perimeters, infill, top and bottom layers with no luck

Tooltip on text "Spiral Vase"
1 Perimeter
Infill 0
Solid Layers: Top=0 => Spiral Vase enabled for selection

justmyopinion is correct. As an FYI, the tooltip is only shown when hovering over the check box after the options allow it to be selected. It does appear on hover over the text, which isn't that obvious.

I honestly much preferred the old method of selecting spiral vase mode and having it set the required parameters for me...

Okay, I think the best solution would be to have the Spiral vase checkbox always enabled, and then show a warning dialog if any incompatible option is set, saying "The Spiral Vase mode requires only one perimeter, no top solid layers blah blah. Shall I adjust those options to the correct values for Spiral Vase mode?". User then can confirm.
I don't like the previous behavior where options were silently overridden internally without any feedback to user.
Regarding command line mode, unfortunately, --spiral-vase should probably just override the other options anyway.

Leave the Spiral Vase checkbox always enabled but prompt user when in…
…compatible options are set. This should be more user-friendly than blindly disabling the Spiral Vase checkbox. #2360

--spiral-vase now automatically overrides --perimeters, --top-solid-l…
…ayers and --fill-density instead of throwing incompatibility error. #2360
