Software Carpentry instructor training covers specific teaching skills with a main emphasis on the “best practices” of teaching. We introduce a handful of key educational research findings and show how they can be used to help people learn better and faster. We also introduce the teaching practices that have been adopted by the Software and Data Carpentry communities, and the overall philosophy and procedures of both organizations in order to prepare participants to teach at Software and Data Carpentry workshops.

This two-day workshop has two goals:

  1. Introduce participants to a handful of key research findings and show how they can be used to help people learn better and faster.
  2. Introduce participants to the teaching practices that have been adopted by the Software and Data Carpentry communities, and the overall philosophy and procedures of both organizations in order to prepare them to teach at Software and Data Carpentry workshops.

This workshop is sponsored by Curriculum Development and Training for Systems Genetics (BD2K) supported by grant R25 HG009105 from the National Institutes of Health.
