Swift language support via extension #1557

This is part of the larger initiative of improving language support in 2019: #1551

  • Language server:
    • Looks pretty good, supports hovers + defs across modules, requires building the project
  • WIP fork: TODO
  • WIP extension
    • Extension TODO
    • Repository TODO


  • Determine the roadmap for Apple's Swift language server (cc @benlangmuir who is building it)
  • Do an initial triage to determine which features (hovers/defs/refs) work, how well, how fast it is, how difficult it would be to add WebSockets and zip fetching, whether or not to find contractors

Tentative next steps:

  • Make a test plan
  • Add WebSocket support
  • Add zip archive fetching support
  • Deploy to and add k8s config to the infrastructure repository
  • Implement dependency fetching
  • Cross repository support
  • Upstream the changes to
