Terminal output formatting minor issues

whenever running cli init ... we get: output type 'go' not supported

we also are seeing some strange date formats with the output:

long incorrectly formatted timestamps; looks like where the date should read as 2022 we get things like 234010101010101012340120101010101010101010101010101010101010101010123012301012022/05/17
the log statements and error messages print out the '%s'
character when they should be printing out a file or directory.
