I'm an independent builder with 20 years of experience making software and leading engineering teams. I left my job to build open source tools full-time, write about what I learn, and speak about how we build things and why.

I build things like engleader.tools (DORA metrics from your terminal, no vendor, no dashboard, no $30k platform), Bubo RSS (a minimal local-first RSS reader), cross-platform native CLIs in Zig like copycat, MCP servers, SSH-based terminal apps, LLM documentation pipelines, a terminal paint program like PaTUI, and a web app that turns a room full of devices into a distributed guitar amplifier. I've given years of workshops on using MIDI to do anything but make music. I maintain konami-js, which has been hiding easter eggs in websites since 2009.

I write about what I discover. My post on speeding up OpenAI transcription costs hit the front page of Hacker News. I've spoken at Microsoft Build, LeadDev, and dozens of other conferences on engineering leadership, creative coding, and whatever else I can't stop thinking about.
