Scientific software and package management
Hi there! Thanks for visiting my sponsor page. I'm Jonathan Chang, practicing scientist and open source software maintainer currently living in Melbourne, Australia. My open source work is dedicated to building new, easy to use analytical tools for biologists, and making it easier to install software via the Homebrew package manager for macOS and Linux.
I help maintain Homebrew and serve on its Project Leadership Committee, and package scientific software for the Brewsci organization. I develop software to help other scientists with their research, such as the Fish Tree of Life website and API, the fishtree R package, and other tools such as TACT. I also blog on scientific and technical topics on my personal website.
Why sponsorship?
As a scientist, it's easy to forsake open source software and open science in favor of building data silos and walled gardens to keep ahead of the competition. Almost all of the tools that I use every day are built and maintained on volunteer time, and I strongly believe in contributing back to open source by helping with development, tooling, documentation, and support. Sponsorship helps to justify taking time off to maintain open source software and to promote open science for the public benefit.
What do I get as a sponsor?
Depending on your sponsorship tier, you might get:
- Your name or logo in my talks, websites, or project READMEs
- A special badge in your profile acknowledging your sponsorship (Thanks!)
