Hi! I'm Mike Tigas.
By day, I'm a hacker-journalist at @ProPublica, splitting my time between platform/infrastructure work and journalism work (in the form of interactive databases and the occasional reporting on digital security).
On the side, I'm a contributor to @thetorproject; I primarily work on Onion Browser, an iOS browser that implements Tor networking. Part of that work also includes Tor.framework, which is an open-source framework for integrating Tor into iOS apps -- it's part of what powers Onion Browser under the hood.
- I'm a core contributor and one of the original authors of @tabulapdf, a tool that parses out tables from PDF files. It was a finalist for a 2014 Online News Association Award, and previously received a grant from the Knight Foundation.
- I worked on @CivOmega, which was a grant-funded experiment to create something like a "Wolfram Alpha, but for civic data"
I also open source lots of other bits and pieces, in repos and gists. (Like this old tutorial on generating a CA and certs for client-side SSL authentication.)
Everything other than my day job comes out of my spare time and with the help of funding from folks who support the kind of work I'm doing. I appreciate even the tiniest bit of support -- even a couple bucks helps pay for some server time. It all adds up.
Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance if you decide to sponsor my work!

If you are an iOS user, I'd be happy to send you a link to the TestFlight for Onion Browser beta releases. (Note that public invite links are occasionally shared, but this guarantees you an invite.)
