Michael Simons created a model to bind request parameters to JPA Specifications. A similar approach could be used to derive Querydsl predicates which would allow the mechanism to work for non-JPA modules as well

Hi,
that's great, you remembered that! As of now my solution is already productive and works (for us) quite well.

Regarding QueryDSL i have (yet) no clue, never used it, so i guess i'm not the right person to make any suggestions in that direction. As far as JPA and the meta model is concert, i'd be glad to help
