Using DefaultMessageListenerContainer it is not possible to change the message selector at runtime. A stop call will actually not reclaim the MessageConsumer instances, it will only stop the connection to the broker.

This can be surprising if a user stop the container, modify its state and then start it again.

Shutdown is pretty agressive (if you have an embedded activemq broker, it even completely stops the broker). For some reason the listener container does not seem to be able to reconnect to the broker after that.
