… the cached property is only declared to depend on the parent view, when in reality any parent view up the tree can affect the value of 'pane'. Because of this, whenever the parent view of a view changes, the view needs to invalidate the cache "all the way down" the view hierarchy.

Also add in unit tests for all three trim functions.
