Hello,

I am trying to install statsmodels on a Windows Vista Business machine.

I am using Anacondas, and Python 3.3.

Unfortunately, I get an installation error, and the error message asks me to inform the package's author. I have therefore come here.

Before I came here, I also tried running the command prompt as Administrator. However, that did not work.

The output of my failed installation attempt is:

C:\Windows\system32>easy_install statsmodels
Searching for statsmodels
Reading http://pypi.python.org/simple/statsmodels/
Reading http://statsmodels.sourceforge.net/
Reading https://github.com/statsmodels/statsmodels/downloads

The package setup script has attempted to modify files on your system
that are not within the EasyInstall build area, and has been aborted.

This package cannot be safely installed by EasyInstall, and may not
support alternate installation locations even if you run its setup
script by hand. Please inform the package's author and the EasyInstall
maintainers to find out if a fix or workaround is available.

I found a workaround....

Install statsmodels from the binaries:

http://statsmodels.sourceforge.net/binaries/

I didn't have patsy, so I had to install it using easy_install:

easy_install patsy
