"New File" in sidebar has kinda confusing behavior

Problem description

Right click on a folder in the sidebar -> choose "New File" -> a new "untitled" document opens. Nothing is added to the folder. File isn't actually created until I save the document.
This looks kinda confusing to me.

Preferred solution

I expected the file to be created immediately in that folder. Just like SideBarEnhancements plugin does. It shows an input panel for the file name, then immediately creates the file and opens it.

It sounds like SideBarEnhancements already does what you want?

Not quite. It adds its own "New file", "New folder", etc, lots of commands, so many that the menu doesn't fit on the screen without scrolling.
And honestly, I don't want to install a plugin just to fix the "new file" command. I would prefer the built-in command to be less clunky.
Note: I'm only talking about sidebar context menu, not File->New File.

I second this. The current behavior of the "New File" context menu entry is odd and asking for the new file's name in an input panel seems like much better UX over opening an empty unsaved view with the default save dir adjusted to the folder the menu was requested from.

The advantage of the current behavior is that an OS-specific dialog is used, but that rarely has an actual advantage considering how the only advantage, suggesting or automatically appending an extension, is usually frowned upon and of no use for the default "Plain text" syntax anyway. You already know which folder you want the file to be in anyway.

I could, of course, adjust the menu with a custom plugin, but it's the default that's weird, not the lack of some functionality.
