We engage our community by contributing to open source, collaborating with the global community, and learning/enhancing our coding skills. We are committed to providing a safe, positive online community for our many volunteers that offer their skills, time, and commitment to our projects.

In order to engage with the community, you can sign up on Systers Open Source Slack.

Language Translation Documentation:

  • Overview : This project initially started out as the Chuukese Picture Dictionary project submitted by Peace Corps Volunteer working in Micronesia with the Chuukese people (Chuuk). The Chuuks have no written language and the volunteers assigned to the community are charged with learning and helping to start with English translation for Chuuk verbal words with pictures.

  • The Problem and Challenges : One of the main problems the PCVs have is that they have to learn Chuuk verbally. They can point to an object and learn the Chuuk word verbally and translate into English verbally. They want to be able to take a picture of an object, upload it to a web application and provide English translation and Chuuk phonetic languages.

  • Scope : The scope of work for this project implementation is as follows.

    1. Designed with Peace Corps overall country/installation login so that all PCVs can use this application at any installation.
    2. Administrative tasks for country/installation.
    3. Users profile and entries for language translation.

The Peace Corps wants synergy around their software development and project manager will ensure to work with other project managers of other projects so that design behavior, look and feel and functionality are in sync.

  • Contribution : If you are interested in contributing to this project, please refer to the Contribution Guide before making your commits and pull requests.
