does krona internally support multiple data sets in a single HTML file?

[ctb]

there are some hints that it does.

We have gotten a lot of mileage out of multiview krona. The only catch is that it’s a separate branch that has to be installed and managed separately. I would be enthusiastic to support any effort towards building both single plots and multiview plots with a single software solution!

hey @standage thanks for chiming in! could you point me towards any docs or howtos on this? and/or provide some screenshots? I'm not even really sure what I'm looking for!

The code is available on the Krona repo's multiView branch. We grabbed this a few years ago, made some marginal edits to the install script (e.g. add a mv prefix to all the Krona shell commands) and JavaScript. It's been a minute, so details are not front of mind.

I don't have any screenshots readily available, but the result is an HTML file with multiple plots whose interactive features are synchronized across the plots: hovering over a section will highlight the same taxon in all samples, and double clicking to expand will also expand the same taxon in all samples.

Code is below. We run cd multiView/KronaTools/; ./install.pl --prefix /path/to/conda/envs/myenv/ to install and mvImportText -o mvkrona.html $FILELIST to run, and we've confirmed that the edits allow it to run alongside a standard Krona install without any conflicts.

dude, how do you find this stuff? 😆

maybe I need to look through the krona issues or something...

I can't remember what first put this on our radar. It may have been when Brian Ondov came for a visit several years ago. (He did originally write Krona while working here, by the way.) In any case, I don't generally discover new bioinformatics resources by scanning stale branches on Github. 🕵️‍♂️
