To give context on this, I couldn't remember the URL for the discourse (I admittedly do not frequent it). Googling for "esdiscourse" and variants didn't help me find it. I went to https://tc39.es/ and didn't see a reference there. I went to the CONTRIBUTING doc, thinking surely it must be there, and couldn't find a link either. I gave up and copied a link out of my emails.

@codehag @gesa @jorydotcom surely we must be able to make this better.

Why replace the es-discuss link, instead of adding the new Discourse link alongside? Does that mean es-discuss is officially dead now?

It's not dead, but I don't think we want to encourage more use of it. Discourse is more convenient for the majority of delegates.

The discourse is linked along with es-discuss at the top of the actual spec: https://tc39.es/ecma262/

I think we should preserve both in both places.

I may not be remembering correctly, but didn't mozilla express interest in eventually shutting down that pipermail instance entirely? We might want to not direct people there if that's the case.

Even if that happens, that won't break esdiscuss.org.

ty for that @michaelficarra and you're super right it should be more publicized. the todo list is too long 😬 😂 😭

I think we should preserve both in both places.

@ljharb given that the mailing list is (being) shut down, i this in this specific paragraph it makes sense to replace the link. It probably wouldn't hurt though to add a single sentence about researching historical ideas and conversations using both the discourse and the mailing list archives.
