Running Linux Mint 16 in a virtual box. I cloned the repository tonight, ran autogen which created the configure script. I ran configure and it said:

checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... /bin/mkdir -p
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking whether make supports nested variables... yes
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler works... no
configure: error: in /home/ptracton/src/software/stlink': configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables Seeconfig.log' for more details

If I run gcc -v it says:

This looks like an issue similar to the one mentioned at http://askubuntu.com/questions/251978/cannot-find-crti-o-no-such-file-or-directory

@ptracton

I took a look at that link and followed the instructions. The command: find /usr/ -name crti* Did not find any crti.o files. Looks like Mint 16 base is not shipping with it by default. I installed clang and it brought in a number of other packages (libc-dev-bin libc6-dev libclang-common-dev libllvm3.2 libstdc++6-4.7-dev). Now I have /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/crti.o. I followed the rest of the instructions in the link and now I can build stlink.

@ptracton

Thanks for the help!
