It would be nice to have database support for postgresql.

I certainly agree. In the future I would also like to support the REST API. In the following 2 weeks I intend to package it first and then have a look at multiple backends.

A pull request would be great. I did manage to get it packaged for Debian, but I'm lacking time to build support for multiple databases.

I opened #8 where I started by factoring out mysql to a backend class. It's still very much work in progress, but it's a start.
