Analogous to the joins, which align rows, implement the column alignment operations: union all, union, intersect, and setdiff/exclude. Unfortunately the equivalent R functions are not generic, so we'll need to come up with unique names.

Options:

  • Add a prefix: df_intersect, df_union, etc
  • Make into infix functions: %n%, %u% etc
  • ???

Implementation should be relatively straightforward for data frames (using the intersect_data_frame etc), and for SQL (although have to make sure the components don't contain order by components). data.tables will probably require a SO post.

Basic implementation for data.table at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7822138/. Should work like join where y is copied if necessary (and copy = TRUE).

This is mostly done - just need to add SQL and data table methods, and document.
