Restore breaks argument in stat_bin #1665

The help page for stat_bin no longer documents the breaks argument.
It seems that an older commit (c9dada7) removed it and added a comment about that in NEWS, saying breaks will no longer be supported. However, a commit a short while later deleted that NEWS bullet (3aab640).
What is the status of the breaks argument? It still works now, but is it expected to work in the future? If it is, should it be added back to help page?
