Instead of using an online API controlled by myself and a secondary JavaScript mechanism for offline mode I'm going to investigate and possibly implement the technique described here.

This works perfectly and requires no additional permissions or external resources. However, I'll maintain the external API that I setup for #11 for a year or two for backwards compatibility, possibly sooner if traffic dies out completely.

Also, it feels good using HTML5 features when they're available.
