The Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, Tamil Nadu, and ThoughtWorks organised the first CMA Hackathon - Code for Urban Governance on Dec 14 and 15. The goal of the hackathon was to bring together a passionate community of professionals and students, to build web and mobile applications designed to improve the lives of the citizens of Tamil Nadu's municipalities.
The CMA liberated data from the 135 municipalities of Tamil Nadu for this event, and over the weekend, participants eagerly worked on ideas and applications to help fuel a technologically-rich and efficient future for Tamil Nadu urban governance. The data sets can be found here
The 5 key themes of the hackathon were:
- Birth and Death Registration
The hackathon was a huge success. 190 software developers participated, and at the end of the two-day event, 45 teams presented their ideas to a panel of senior officials from the State's municipal administration department. There were three winning teams:

|3rd Place||State Health Analyser||An app to analyse the performance of each ward on the parameters - Health, Road, Sanitation - and assign weightage to each area.||GnanaSelvan, Suresh Kumar, Shankaranand, Rajkumar|
