Modern is tight, highly engineered, exacting, not forgiving when integrating external ideas or modification.

Consumer electronics are very modern. You don't go futzing with them, adding circuits or opening things up. You use the ports you are given.
<h1>Postmodern</h1>
Postmodern systems are organic, and involve multiple people who don't necessarily share a vision or even think highly of each other.

Road transportation is postmodern compared to rail; all you need is a thing with wheels, and a willingness to obey the rules...
