This was never integrated in the main branch. Is there a reason?

Preemptive authentication would be much better, otherwise we duplicate the traffic to the Solr server. An example can be seen here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7077475/can-i-do-preemptive-authentication-with-httplib2

I'm curious about this, as I have some interest in adding authentication to Sunburnt as well. Notably an HMAC in the request headers, a la https://websolr.com/guides/websolr-advanced-auth. Probably a different issue and pull request, but does seem vaguely related to this one.
